SHAKIRA NANTAMBI-DIRECTOR & TRASURER
There’s a saying that goes “The hands that help are holier than the lips that pray” One day, while I had gone to church to pray I met a God sent Man. He had congregated just like most of us at church. I was 12 years Old.
This man was God sent. His hands blessed my life. His generosity saved my future. By giving me his email, Greg opened doors to me. He adopted me,took care of me like his own. Paid my school fees and catered for all my daily needs since then to date. Oh how my life was saved from the ghetto gutters, lack of education and prostitution or early marriage.
Greg practically challenged me by his kind heart. I was compelled to help whoever and whenever I could. One day, while visiting my auntie in the village,I came across a 15 year old girl in the neighborhood who had missed school. I was numbed and totally shocked at the fact that she missed not because she lacked school fees like I did when I was that age but because she was menstruating. In her own words she said “I have used sand to consume the blood and this failed. I used banana fibres before but I stained my skirt and was laughed at and bullied in class. When mama made me cloth from old blankets,I couldn’t stay away from home for long because it also leaked. I have decided to miss school for 5 days every month to avoid embarrassments”
Knowing the essence of education,I couldn’t sit and watch the girl child miss school because of avoidable reasons. I have since then joined hands with Caring hearts Uganda to make a difference in our country Uganda and we believe that one day we shall overcome.
Get in Touch. Get Involved.
We believe that menstrual health, primary healthcare & proper hygiene is a basic right. We can't wait for government to do ALL the work when we can help. The little we can do, we must do.
